Feb. 15, 2017 – Please join us in congratulating RCMG’s very own Chairman of the Board, Dr. Gordon A. Wong, who is the recipient of this year’s prestigious Golden Stethoscope Award!
The Sierra Sacramento Valley Medical Society (the “Medical Society”) presented its highest honor to Dr. Wong for his career-long devotion to compassionate and empathetic patient care. The Medical Society applauded Dr. Wong’s outstanding commitment to and service of our medical and healthcare communities, through his leadership in medical practice, academic pursuits, and business endeavors.
Through this award, the Medical Society celebrated Dr. Wong’s contributions as a specialist in pulmonary medicine, infectious diseases, and critical care, and as a leading practitioner both locally and state wide. Dr. Wong served as Chief of Staff and Co-Director of the ICU Program at Mercy General Hospital and continues to serve as Medical Director of Infection Control and Chairman of the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee. He has served as President of the American College of Chest Physicians (California Chapter) and as President of the Infectious Diseases Society of Northern California.
The Medical Society also commended Dr. Wong’s enrichment of and commitment to medical education. He is Founder and Chairman of two longstanding symposia – the Annual Infectious Diseases Symposium and Annual Pulmonary & Critical Care Medicine Symposium. His love of medicine also inspired him to join in the co-founding and accrediting of California Northstate University College of Medicine (“CNU College of Medicine”). As the Senior Associate Dean of Clinical Medicine, he contributed to the development of the University River City Faculty Practice Plan (“FPP”), a partnership between CNU College of Medicine and RCMG, through which he was responsible for the recruitment of over 300 physicians as clinical faculty. He is a Clinical Professor of Pulmonary Medicine and Infectious Diseases at CNU College of Medicine and a former Clinical Professor at U.C. Davis School of Medicine.
The Medical Society also acknowledged Dr. Wong’s presidencies and chairmanships of several medical groups and healthcare corporations, including as Chairman of RCMG’s Board, where he has instilled the same commitment and passion to the service of RCMG’s patients, providers, and community partners. The FPP has created access for RCMG patients to see some of our community’s most outstanding physicians. RCMG’s recent expansion into more Northern California counties, clinic operations, and an ambulatory surgery center are other examples of Dr. Wong’s and RCMG’s dedication to ensuring access to quality healthcare for our underserved population.
Dr. Wong was born and raised in Sacramento, graduated from U.C. Berkeley and U.C.L.A. School of Medicine, with Fellowships at U.C. Davis School of Medicine.
RCMG joins in the celebration of Dr. Wong’s lifetime achievement award!
